The Southeastern United States is full of charming small towns, vibrant big cities, beautiful mountains, and pristine beach. There are many places to choose from when you’re looking for the best Southeast U.S. vacation spots or family-friendly destinations. Here are four top East Coast vacation spots that are great for everyone.
Hilton Head, South Carolina
South Carolina is our favorite East Coast destination. There are many beautiful beaches in South Carolina. Many people consider Myrtle Beach to be the most family-friendly, but Hilton Head is just as lovely. You will find miles upon miles of white-sand beaches and paved bicycle paths throughout the city. Go fishing, play golf, or kayak into the Intracoastal Waterway. Visit Shelter Cove to hear live music or learn more about the area.
Gulf Shores, Alabama
Gulf Shores, Alabama is the place to be if you prefer the Gulf of Mexico over the Atlantic Ocean. You’ll find some of Alabama’s most beloved beaches here. You can take your kids to places like the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo and Waterville USA water amusement park. There is also Adventure Island where they can play mini-golf or laser tag. Parents can also enjoy the Gulf’s fresh seafood restaurants as well as the stunning sunsets over the Gulf.
Stone Mountain, Georgia
Stone Mountain is a suburb of Atlanta that lies about 20 miles east from Atlanta. It doesn’t look like a great place to visit, and certainly not one on the Coast. It’s actually home to one the most visited attractions in the state, and you’ll see why everyone wants to go. Stone Mountain Park is located around Stone Mountain, which contains the most granite in the world. The Summit Skyride offers stunning views of Atlanta and the surrounding area. You can also hike up to the summit or ride the train around the park. There are many museums that teach both children and adults about Civil War history. Outdoor obstacle courses will test your physical abilities. Watch the Lasershow at night from the summit. Stone Mountain is a great place to take your family on a vacation in the Southeast, even though it’s not quite on the Coast.
Carolina Beach, North Carolina
Carolina Beach, North Carolina is a great place to spend a peaceful family vacation. This beach is smaller than other beaches on the North Carolina Coast. Expect undeveloped sandy beaches where you can enjoy the surf and sand every day. Carolina Beach Boardwalk offers more excitement. You can enjoy street food, carnival games, a carousel and shopping along with live music and many other fun activities.
