How to meet people as a solo traveler

Solo travel is a great way to learn more about yourself and meet other like-minded travelers. People are curious and open-minded, and will often go out of their way to find new and exciting experiences. It can be difficult to find other adventurers in the beginning.

Stay in a Hostel

Hostels are a great place to meet other travelers. You can meet up in the common areas and have a chat with your bunkmate. You might consider going out to eat with your bunk bed partner. Food is the best way to make friends.

Get in touch with friends in your destination

It’s a great experience to meet up with old friends and make new connections. You can find them online, whether they are students studying abroad or friends of a friend. It is a great way to make new connections.

It’s a great way for people to meet up, whether it be over coffee or by walking around downtown. They will have a unique local perspective and be able to show you their favourite haunts, which might not be in the guidebooks.

Be friends

It is easier to have a conversation than at a bar. You should choose the right type of bar to attract your crowd.

Take care of your health, smile, and enjoy the moment. You’re on vacation!

Join a Pub Crawl

Pub crawls can be organized by local tour companies or hostels. They are a great way for travelers to meet new people and have a lot of fun! These crawls are usually led by beer-loving people and take in the most important venues in town.

You don’t need to rely on your own initiative to start conversations. Guides are great hosts and maintain a friendly environment. It is a fast and effective way to build relationships in a controlled environment.

You can also try the pub crawl’s classier cousin–wine-tasting.

Take a tour

Register for a day trip to or around your destination. All the guests will be from different countries, but what better way to bond than through the love of a destination?

Take a night cruise along the Seine, or ride a motorbike through Sapa, Vietnam. You will meet other people who share your interests, and you might even be able to join them for a beer. Many hostels offer walking tours for free every day. This allows you to get a feel for the area and also gives you an opportunity to strike up a conversation.

Find a Meetup in your area allows you to meet people who share your interests. There are many groups around the globe that share common interests, such as creative writing, programming, or practicing French. There are many opportunities.

Volunteering is a great way to support a cause while also meeting people, not just tourists. For opportunities to volunteer in the world, check out local and large non-profit organizations.

I have worked with many organizations, including Global Water Brigades Honduras (now Biblioworks Bolivia) and Global Water Brigades Honduras (now Biblioworks Bolivia). It has been an incredible and enriching experience that I would recommend to everyone!

Take a class

Sign up for a class to meet people from all walks of the world. You can find flyers and brochures for classes in language, cooking and sport at your local hostels.

A cooking class is one of the best ways to explore new areas. Take a cooking class to learn new techniques and recipes from your host country. You can bring back a unique souvenir (your newly discovered talents) when you return home.
